Few homes on Big Bear Lake sit this close to the water. Lagunita Shores is a custom log home with more than 100 feet of deep-water shoreline, a private dock, and views that run down the full length of the lake. Summer here means boats and paddleboards off the dock and long evenings on the deck. Winter means Snow Summit, about three miles away, and sledding right on the property when the snow comes in.
The backyard is sheltered from the wind, so the outdoor spaces stay comfortable well into the evening. The dock has room for boats and personal watercraft, and a large sandy area gives the kids somewhere to dig in between swims. A natural gas grill and prep area handles dinner, and a gas fire pit in the yard pulls everyone together once the sun goes down. Up on the expansive deck, lounge chairs seat twelve around a second gas fire pit, and there is plenty of room to sit, look out at the water, and do nothing in particular. Come the Fourth of July, the backyard has a front-row view of the lake's fireworks.
The 12-person hot tub is the place to end the day, whether that day was spent on the water or on the slopes. It is especially good when the snow is falling.
Inside, the main floor opens into a two-story family room with tall picture windows facing the lake. The dining room sits right beside it, with a natural wood table that seats twelve to fourteen and a fireplace built from local stone and slate. Both rooms lead straight out to the decks. The chef's kitchen is outfitted with Viking appliances, and on the other side of the stone fireplace, the media room has a smart TV and a stack of games for movie nights or the big game.
Also on the main floor, a separate cottage bedroom has a queen bed and its own large ensuite with an expansive shower, a good fit for grandparents or anyone who wants a little distance from the rest of the house.
Half-log stairs lead up to the rest of the bedrooms. The primary suite has vaulted ceilings, a king bed, and a door out to a private second-floor deck. Its oversized bathroom is the showpiece, with a large dual-head shower and an infinity-edge jetted tub that fills from a spout in the ceiling. Down the hall, one bedroom has a king, one has two queens, and another has a queen. Two bunk rooms, each with twin bunk beds, round things out, one done in rust and deep green and the other kept light and bright. Every bathroom in the house is finished to a high standard. There's also a small office nook for the calls and deadlines that won't wait until you're home.
