Ocean Beach keeps its own rhythm --- fog off by mid-morning, salt in the air, somebody's board rack rattling down the street before the coffee's finished brewing. South of the house, Sunset Cliffs Boulevard traces the bluffs, and the trails through Sunset Cliffs Natural Park make a strong argument for walking to sunset instead of driving to it.
The rest of the city is close behind. Cabrillo National Monument sits at the tip of the peninsula with its tide pools and old lighthouse. Mission Bay, Belmont Park's 1925 wooden coaster and SeaWorld are all about ten minutes north. Twenty minutes up the coast, sea lions sprawl across the rocks at La Jolla Cove. Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo make an easy day inland --- and since the California burrito was invented in this city, you won't have to go far for a good one.
